Glenn Hester’s folio

– posted by Sally

I met Glenn for the first time the day he booked me to work with him. Like so many of the other photographers I work with he had printed out a large number of images on 6x4 prints for me to look at. First up was about getting to know Glenn and where he was with his photography and help him define where he wanted to be.

The images on the floor I looked at, whilst technically excellent, were in fact mostly pedestrian. This often happens when photographers put up what they think should be shown. I picked through images that I felt we could work with then asked him to show me some personal work along with other work he hadn’t included.

THANK GOODNESS. What unfolded was this amazing selection of strong graphic shots, combined with eclectic projects he had been working on. After printing them out, and yelling yippee, we had a fantastic selection to begin telling a story with. A story in a folio is so important. It takes the viewer on a journey, that by the end will leave a lasting impression. The story can unfold with colour, image, content or graphics, or a combination of all three.

Above are a few favourite spreads form Glenn’s folio.

PSC Graduation of 2010

– posted by Sally

On Thursday 17th of June I was lucky enough to be invited to the ceremony of the Photography Studies College graduation of 2010.

I have to say, I have been invited over the past few years, but this class of 2009, graduating in 2010, was exceptional.

Often when you sit at evenings like this, of which I do often, there are always a handful of standouts. This class of 09 there were many more that a handful. Shot after shot that came on to the screen was a knock out. There was a great combination of creativity, technical excellence and originality.
