Quite a few interesting opportunities have come through our email and mail over the last few weeks. Here is a summary of the photography competitions (with further information below):

2016 National Works on Paper
CALL FOR ENTRIES!

I’m not sure if this award accepts photography – their website is down so I haven’t been able to check…

National Works on Paper is one of Australia’s most prestigious awards and acquisitive exhibitions.  A biennial exhibition, its role is to support and promote contemporary Australian artists working on or with paper.
Recent winners of the National Works on Paper include Laith McGregor, Richard Lewer, Danie Mellor, Gareth Sansom, Paul Boston, Lisa Roet and eX de Medici.

The next National Works on Paper is 16 July - 11 September 2016.

Young Regional Artist Scholarships now open
Arts NSW are offering an exciting opportunity for young NSW regional artists.


The NSW Young Regional Artist Scholarships are offered by the State Government to support innovative young artists and arts and cultural workers from regional NSW to undertake a self-directed professional development program in their chosen field. 25 Scholarships will be offered each year.  In 2015/16, 16 have been awarded so far and the call is now on for applicants for the remaining 9. 18-25 year old artists and arts and cultural workers from all art forms, including dance, design, digital arts, history, Aboriginal arts, literature, music, theatre, screen and the visual arts are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Applications for the Young Regional Artist Scholarship are now open and close Monday 1 February 2016.

Stanthorpe Art Festival 2016

The Stanthorpe Art Festival supports artists of all levels and disciplines and offers a major prize of $20,000
Open to all artists and all forms of art media. Works entered will have been created since June 2014.

Entries are now open and cost $30 per artwork.
Entries Close Monday 21 March 2016.
2016 Judges include Ron Ramsay, Ian Potter Museum of Art, Melbourne and Jason Smith, QAGOMA, Brisbane

The second Duo Magazine Percival Photographic Portrait Prize is open to Australian and interstate artists.
The major acquisitive Prize is $10,000.

Dis-Moi Dix Mot
Tell Me Ten Words... In French Photography Competition
NSW state-wide photography competition focusing on 10 French words.


The Alliance Française de Sydney, the Consulate  General of Switzerland in Sydney, the Consulate General of Canada in Sydney and The Belgian Trade Office in Sydney are currently organizing a NSW state-wide photo contest focusing on 10 French words.  The 10 chosen words invite you to discover the French as it is spoken in various French- speaking territories.  The participants are invited to submit a photo inspired by one of 10 French words before 7 February 2016 and the public is invited to vote from 22 February to 7 March 2016 for its favorite photo between the top 50 photos selected by the jury.  New South Wales children and adults are invited to participate in this free photo competition, with a chance to win a trip to New Caledonia and many more prizes.

Photobook Melbourne (PBM) will not be running a festival next year, but have been granted a space for 6 months to exhibit photography.

To start this new adventure PBM are calling out for images for the second Photo Award = exhibition + print swap.
